Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on March 24, 2024, resulting in the death of an adult male.
On March 24, 2024, at approximately 8:51 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Studebaker Road and Atherton Street regarding an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers determined the incident involved a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling southbound on Studebaker Road when it collided with a 2011 Hyundai passenger vehicle that was making a left turn from northbound Studebaker Road onto westbound Atherton Street.
Since the collision, the motorcyclist remained hospitalized due to the injuries he sustained. On March 31, 2025, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving care at a medical facility. Detectives were notified of the death on April 7, 2025.
The motorcyclist has been identified as Leonard Tanguay, a 70-year-old resident of Long Beach.
At this time, speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving are not being investigated as contributing factors.
