Collision Investigation Detail detectives are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Oct. 22, 2024, which later resulted in the death of a male adult pedestrian.

On Oct. 22, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Fe Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel prior to officers arriving on scene.

The preliminary investigation indicated a Honda sedan was driving eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway and collided with the pedestrian walking northbound across Pacific Coast Highway, outside of a marked crosswalk.

The driver remained on-scene. Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.

On July 1, 2025, detectives were notified that the pedestrian had died. On Dec. 1, 2025, detectives received information that the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner determined the pedestrian’s death was related to the 2024 traffic collision. The decedent has been identified as Jason Owens, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective David Dougherty at (562) 570-7355.
