A male adult and male juvenile were arrested and have now been charged for attempt murder for their involvement in two shootings.

On Monday, August 10, 2015, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to the 1600 block of 10th Street in regards to a hit shooting. When officers arrived, they found four victims that had been struck by gunfire. The victims were transported to local hospitals where they were all expected to survive. A suspect and vehicle description was broadcast to other officers.

On the same night, approximately 22 minutes later, a call was received by police dispatch regarding shots fired in the 1900 block of Harbor Avenue, which was also broadcast. When officers arrived, they did not locate any victims, but found evidence of a shooting. Witnesses provided the description of a vehicle that fled the scene that was similar to the vehicle description in the 10th Street shooting.

Gang detectives responded to both shooting scenes to begin their investigations.

Later that evening, patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle description from the two shootings. The officers subsequently arrested the driver of that vehicle, 23-year-old Antoine Hutchinson of Long Beach, for driving without a license.

On August 12, 2015, after an extensive and exhaustive investigation, gang detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who filed four counts of attempt murder with gang enhancements against the defendant.

Gang detectives continued investigating the shootings, and on August 13, 2015, with the assistance of LBPD SWAT, a search warrant was served at a residence in the 600 block of Cedar Avenue. During the search, an assault rifle was recovered and a 16-year-old male subject from Long Beach was located. The juvenile was transported to Long Beach Police Headquarters for questioning and subsequently booked for attempt murder relating to the same shooting investigations.

On August 17, 2015, this case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who determined that based on the circumstances, the juvenile would be formally charged as an adult. Four counts of attempt murder with gang enhancements were also filed against the juvenile.

A motive for the shootings appear to be gang-related. Both defendants are expected back in Long Beach Superior Court for their next court appearance on December 1, 2015.
