The Long Beach Police Department is excited to announce the launch of our Youth Leadership Academy (YLA), in effort to support the next generation of community leaders. This free of cost weeklong program will provide a platform for Long Beach high school students to develop essential leadership skills while fostering positive relationships with law enforcement. YLA will take place beginning Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cabrillo High School.

Through a series of engaging workshops, interactive discussions, and team-building exercises, participants will gain valuable insights into leadership principles, conflict resolution techniques, and community engagement strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with law enforcement professionals to enhance interpersonal leadership development and increase career awareness in the public safety sector. Each day will be specific to the values of LBPD that consist of Respect, Accountability, Compassion, Integrity and Service. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided to all attendees. High school students are encouraged to apply by June 1st with the capacity of fifty attendees.

In alignment with the Mayor’s vision for investing in Long Beach’s future, this program provides our community’s youth with the tools and mentorships needed for future success.

By investing in the development of our youth, the LBPD aims to build trust, inspire future leaders, and strengthen the bond between our department and the community we serve.

This initiative has been made possible with the partnership with Pacific Gateway Workforce Innovation Network, Department of Parks and Recreation, Civil Service Commission, the Arts Council for Long Beach, Youth Leadership Long Beach, and Neighborhood Resource Center.
