This arrest brings closure to the families of the victims in each of these cold cases.

Officers located the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL BATTERY OF JUVENILE VICTIMS – ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT 6/27/2023 Special Investigations Division and Child Abuse detectives have arrested a suspect for sexual battery against minors and believe there may be additional victims. 

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – 600 BLOCK OF ROYCROFT AVENUE 6/24/2023

Homicide detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on June 24, 2023, in the 600 block of Roycroft Avenue.

*UPDATE* TRAFFIC FATALITY ARREST – WILLOW STREET AND CASPIAN AVENUE 6/23/2023 On June 21, 2023, detectives from the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Their office filed felony charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence against both drivers in the collision that resulted in the death of Jacqueline Zamarripa, a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach.

TRAFFIC FATALITY - BELLFLOWER BOULEVARD AND ANAHEIM ROAD 6/23/2023 On June 22, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Bellflower Boulevard and Anaheim Road for an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

*UPDATE* MURDER INVESTIGATION ARREST – 900 BLOCK OF DAISY AVENUE 6/21/2023 On June 21, 2023, detectives from the Special Investigations Division arrested a 15-year-old male resident of Long Beach for the January 8, 2023, murder of Jaevion Tasby, a 30-year-old resident of the City of Long Beach.

LBPD COMMANDER MEGAN ZABEL PROMOTED TO DEPUTY CHIEF 6/21/2023 Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish announced his appointment of Commander Megan Zabel to the position of Deputy Chief. Deputy Chief Zabel will assume command of the Support Bureau effective July 1, 2023.

*UPDATE* MURDER INVESTIGATION ARRESTS – 100 BLOCK OF EAST 1ST STREET 6/20/2023 On April 14, 2023, detectives from the Special Investigations Division located and arrested Akili Collins, an 18-year-old resident of Long Beach, and Melake Daniel, a 19-year-old resident of Long Beach, for the April 12, 2023 murder.

LBPD Visits Belmont Shore along 2nd Street to Educate the Public on How to “Know Your Limit” 6/18/2023

On June 16, 2023 the LBPD Neighborhood Safety Bike Team and Motor Details visited Belmont Shore along 2^nd Street to educate community members on the importance of monitoring how much they drink and to “know your limit”. The “Know Your Limit” campaign was from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in Belmont Shore along 2^nd Street.

*UPDATE* LOCATED AT-RISK MISSING PERSON - GABRIELA LOPEZ AND EDDIE BERNAL JR. 6/17/2023 The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help locating a 13-year-old at-risk missing person, Gabriela Lopez and 11-year-old at-risk missing person Eddie Bernal Jr., who were last seen on June 16, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

IN-CUSTODY DEATH – LONG BEACH CITY JAIL – 400 W. BROADWAY 6/14/2023 The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the death of an inmate at Long Beach City Jail on June 13, 2023.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN ATTEMPT KIDNAPPING OF A MINOR – ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT 6/14/2023 On June 11, 2023, suspect Eugene Martindale III, a 28-year-old resident of Long Beach, was arrested and booked in connection to two kidnapping incidents. Detectives believe there may be additional victims.

TRAFFIC FATALITY - PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND CERRITOS AVENUE 6/14/2023 On June 13, 2023 at approximately 8:44 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Cerritos Avenue, regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

*UPDATE* 293 GUNS TURNED IN AT LBPD GUN BUY BACK EVENT 6/12/2023 On June 10, 2023, the Long Beach Police Department hosted a Gun Buy Back event at MacArthur Park where community members were able to turn in their firearm(s) to receive a gift card. The event was sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn’s office.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN SEXUAL BATTERY OF A MINOR – ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT 6/9/2023 On June 8, 2023 at approximately 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Long Beach Police Department’s Sex Crimes Detail arrested Nabil Shaheed, a 40-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of false imprisonment with intent to commit rape, one count of kidnapping, and one count of kidnap with intent to rape.

TRAFFIC FATALITY – PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND JUNIPERO AVENUE 6/9/2023 On June 8, 2023 at approximately 7:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Junipero Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

LBPD CITES FOUR IN EFFORT TO REDUCE ALCOHOL AVAILABILITY TO UNDERAGE PERSONS 5/31/2023 The Long Beach Police Department and agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Cited four suspects from October 2022 - May 2023 for furnishing alcoholic beverages to underage persons. The operation was conducted in the City of Long Beach.

TRAFFIC FATALITY - PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY AND THE 103 FREEWAY 5/13/2023 On May 13, 2023, at approximately 02:23 a.m., officers were dispatched to Pacific Coast Highway and the 103 Freeway regarding an injury traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

MURDER INVESTIGATION AND ARREST - 6200 BLOCK OF CALIFORNIA AVENUE 5/11/2023 On May 10, 2023, at approximately 6:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of California Avenue to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a gunshot victim, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

ATTEMPTED MURDER INVESTIGATION ARREST – MARKET STREET AND LOCUST AVENUE 5/6/2023 On May 5, 2023, detectives from the Special Investigations Division located and arrested Jason Santiago Gonzalez, a 24-year-old resident of Long Beach, for the April 16, 2023 attempted murder of five Long Beach Police officers.

Missing person Ernest Hardaway was found safe and unharmed in the City.

MURDER INVESTIGATION – 300 BLOCK E 17TH STREET 5/1/2023 On May 1, 2023, at approximately 12:14 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of East 17th Street regarding a male subject yelling for help, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

UPDATE: LBPD CITES THREE IN EFFORT TO REDUCE THE AVAILABILITY OF ALCOHOL TO MINORS 4/19/2023 Agents of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) along with the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) have cited three (3) clerks for selling alcohol to minors between the period of October 2022 to April 2023.

TRAFFIC FATALITY - ATLANTIC AVENUE AND 53RD STREET 4/19/2023 On April 14, 2023, at approximately 9:16 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street regarding an injury hit-and-run traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
