City Manager Pat West today named Arturo M. Sanchez, Interim Assistant City Administrator for the City of Oakland, as Deputy City Manager for the City of Long Beach. Mr. Sanchez's appointment will be effective in mid-February.
"Arturo has a proven history of providing exemplary leadership in a municipal setting," Mr. West said. “His strong analytical, strategic and community engagement skills will be a great addition to our Senior Management Team and help us make Long Beach an even better city.”
Mr. Sanchez is currently responsible for overseeing the City of Oakland’s external service delivery departments (police, parks and recreation, human services, building and planning, libraries, and nuisance abatement). He previously held the positions of Deputy City Administrator, Assistant to the City Administrator, Policy Analyst and attorney in the city’s Neighborhood Law Corps.
“I am grateful to be appointed Deputy City Manager for the City of Long Beach,” Mr. Sanchez said. “I am dedicated to providing the best public service possible, and to working closely with residents, businesses and all our civic partners for the betterment of the entire community.”
Prior to his positions in Oakland, Mr. Sanchez was a staff Attorney with La Raza Centro Legal, San Francisco, and Centro Legal de La Raza in Oakland where he focused on representing youth at disciplinary and Individual Educational Program hearings.
Mr. Sanchez received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from University of California, Berkeley, and his Juris Doctor from New College of California, School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the State of California, and is a member of the International City/County Management Association. He is bilingual; fluently speaking and writing in English and Spanish.
