Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) celebrates LGBTQIA+ Pride Month each year with a series of special events, book and film lists and other activities for community members. For many years, the month of June has been nationally recognized as a time to celebrate the history and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. Each LBPL Pride activity will highlight the importance of visibility through history, culture, art, storytelling or film. LBPL Pride Month kicks off Saturday, May 20 at Bach Neighborhood Library with a fun, festive day in the park for families and their furry friends at the Paw Walk with Pride.
“One of the best things about Long Beach is the chance to experience and celebrate the history and traditions of our LGBTQIA+ community,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “I encourage everyone to attend the Library’s Pride celebration events and activities.”
Library Services’ Pride Month highlights include the below events. The complete list of events and additional details is available on the LBPL events calendar:
“One of the Library’s primary goals is to offer programs that are inclusive and make people of all backgrounds feel welcome,” said Library Director Cathy De Leon. “Pride Month at Long Beach Public Library celebrates the rich history of the LGBTQIA+ community that is a vital part of the Long Beach experience.”
A complete list of Pride Month celebration events is available on the Library’s website. All events are free and open to the public and are made possible through the generous support of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.
