Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department (Department) has certified seven new businesses and re-certified nine as part of its Green Business Program (Program). The green businesses were recognized at the June 3, 2025, Long Beach City Council meeting for their efforts to create a healthier, more sustainable city.
“We’re proud to recognize these outstanding businesses for their leadership in sustainability and commitment to our shared environmental values,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This Program reflects our city’s dedication to building a cleaner, healthier future, and these businesses are helping lead the way.”
Since the Program started in 2018 under the California Green Business Network, the City has certified 90 Long Beach businesses. The City’s Program offers free certification to local businesses and nonprofits committed to sustainable practices. Participants receive technical assistance to implement measures in energy and water conservation, pollution prevention, waste reduction and community education. Businesses are re-certified every three years to ensure continued best practices are implemented as laws and/or best practices change. Certified businesses benefit from marketing support and recognition through city and state platforms. To become a certified green business, businesses can sign-up online.

“Our Green Business Program is a great example of how economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand,” said Economic Development Director Bo Martinez. “These green businesses are making a significant impact in our community, and we’re excited to see more businesses stepping up and making sustainability a core part of how they operate.”
The California Green Business Network leads the state and nation in working with small to medium-sized businesses to grow a vibrant and healthy green economy. Led by a coalition of cities and counties, the Program contributes to more livable communities with healthier environments, while also conserving resources and saving money. In 2024, California Green Businesses reduced 37,986 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, reduced or diverted 18,431 tons of waste and conserved 106 million gallons of water.
The Program supports the goals of the City’s Climate Action Plan to minimize greenhouse gas emissions for residents and businesses, foster economic opportunities and realize a vision of Long Beach where everyone can live in thriving communities built on sustainability and resilience.
