Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Office of Equity has launched a Culture and Heritage Calendar Survey, inviting community members to help shape a new calendar that will recognize and celebrate diversity in Long Beach and build stronger community connections. While the survey will be available on an ongoing basis, submissions completed by Friday, April 25 will be considered for the inaugural edition of the Culture and Heritage Calendar launching this spring.
“We believe that recognizing and celebrating the diverse traditions and milestones of our community fosters understanding and strengthens connections,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This survey is an opportunity for our community to have their unique voices heard by helping develop a new Culture and Heritage Calendar that educates and further showcases our Long Beach values of respect and inclusion.”
The Culture and Heritage Calendar will highlight significant cultural and religious observances, diversity and inclusion-related commemorative months, and key dates that reflect the City’s commitment to equity and inclusion. Once completed, the Calendar will be available on the Office of Equity’s webpage as a resource to promote awareness of the diverse groups, cultures and causes in Long Beach.
Community members interested in participating may complete the survey online or in-person by visiting any Long Beach Public Library location, as well as any Parks, Recreation and Marine community center, and filling out a paper copy. To ensure the Calendar reflects the diverse voices and experiences of Long Beach, the survey is open to all community members, and participants can suggest widely recognized cultural or religious observances to be included on the Calendar. Those interested in suggesting multiple events, holidays or observances should submit a separate survey for each.
The launch of the inaugural edition of the Cultural and Heritage Calendar will be announced in the coming weeks. While the inaugural edition will only include survey responses submitted by April 25, the survey will remain open and the Calendar will be updated periodically to ensure those interested in participating continue to have opportunities to provide input.
