Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach’s Office of Equity, in partnership with the Citizen’s Advisory Commission on Disability (CACoD), is hosting Transportation Day on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.). Transportation Day will connect residents with disabilities to transportation agencies. Additionally, attendees will be able to sign-up for Access Paratransit and Long Beach Transit Dial-A-Lift and hear the latest updates about accessible transportation options in the greater Long Beach area.
“It is no secret that public transportation is a lifeline for people with disabilities, as it connects them to medical appointments, school, their jobs and much more,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Events like Transportation Day are key to ensuring that the Long Beach community is aware of and has access to all transportation options.”
During Transportation Day, participants can hear from representatives from the City's transportation partners during a panel discussion, moderated by former CACoD Chair and disability champion Deaka McClain; browse resource tables; have an opportunity to apply for Access Paratransit and Dial-A-Lift services; get their mobility devices cleaned for free; obtain more information about travel training and using the public transportation system; and much more.
With more than 55,000 residents living in Long Beach with a disability, the Office of Equity and CACoD strive to ensure equitable access to all programs and services provided by the City and its partners – Long Beach Transit, Access Paratransit, Los Angeles Metro Transportation Authority and the Disabled Resources Center, Inc.
Transportation Day is free and open to the public but requires advanced RSVP, available online, or by contacting the City’s Accessibility Coordinator, Jennifer Kumiyama, at jennifer.kumiyama@longbeach.gov or 562.570.6257.
