City to Extend Homelessness Emergency Outreach Efforts in the Downtown Area in February
City of Long Beach Joint Information Center

Long Beach, CA – Due to the consistent demand for services, the City’s Mobile Access Center (MAC) will extend its street outreach efforts in Downtown Long Beach during the month of February. This focused outreach will allow Homeless Services Bureau staff to conduct meaningful engagement and continue to build relationships, an essential component in increasing access to resources and services. Data show that some people are contacted 10 or more times before becoming open to receiving services.

In February, the MAC will be stationed at the following locations:

  • Corner of East 6th Street and Long Beach Boulevard
    • Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • The Promenade (corner of East Ocean Boulevard and The Promenade North)
    • Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway)
    • Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon

The MAC significantly lowers barriers to providing case management services and other resources for people experiencing homelessness. Unlike other forms of street outreach, the MAC allows Homeless Services Bureau outreach staff to start the intake process right on the street. Operated by outreach staff and a public health nurse, the vehicle offers nearly everything available at the Multi-Service Center, excluding services from co-located nonprofits, a full-scale medical clinic and showers.

As of Monday, Jan. 30, the MAC has reached 242 people experiencing homelessness and connected 80 people to services, including referral and transport to shelter, enrollment into the homeless services system, connections to community resources, and basic medical services.
