Above: Belmont Shore coast in Long Beach will host four board events under the Olympic sport of Sailing for the 2028 Games.

Long Beach, CA – The Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28) announced today the finalized Sailing venue plan for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. Sailing events will take place along the Belmont Shore coast in Long Beach as well as the Port of Los Angeles, which LA28, with support from the International Olympic Committee Executive Board and World Sailing, have determined will offer favorable racing conditions and optimize spectator viewing with a more immersive and heightened overall fan experience.

“Long Beach is the premiere location for windsurfing and kite – two outstanding sailing events that will captivate spectators,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “We hosted Sailing competitions during the 1984 Olympic Games, and we cannot wait to continue our legacy and show our beautiful coastline to the world once again in 2028.”

The Olympic sport of Sailing includes 10 medal events among Men’s, Women’s and mixed teams. For the 2028 Games, Sailing events will be shared between Long Beach, a major Venue City, and the Host City of Los Angeles, utilizing two of the best locations along the Pacific coastline for Sailing competitions. Long Beach’s Belmont Shore will stage four (4) board events: Men’s and Women’s Windsurfing and Men’s and Women’s Kite. Meanwhile the Port of Los Angeles will host six (6) boat events: Men’s and Women’s Dinghy, Men’s and Women’s Skiff, Mixed Dinghy and Mixed Multihull.

Belmont Shore and the Port of Los Angeles are centrally located within LA28’s larger Games Plan and will attract fans and viewers from around the world with their reliable conditions, picturesque coastal backdrops and exciting competition atmospheres. Sharing the sport across two locations will create more opportunities for communities throughout the region to experience the sport and showcase the value the sport offers to the Olympic Movement in these standout venues. Long Beach will also stage other prominent coastal sports like Beach Volleyball, Coastal Rowing and Open Water Swimming.

Long Beach will serve as a 2028 Venue City set to stage the largest number of sporting events outside of the Host City of Los Angeles, staging 11 sporting events for the Olympic Games and seven for the Paralympic Games. Hosted by the City of Los Angeles, the 2028 Olympic Games will take place July 14 through July 30, 2028, and the 2028 Paralympic Games will take place Aug. 15 through Aug. 27, 2028.
