Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) invites local residents, Library patrons, garden enthusiasts and all other community members to share their voice to help shape the reimagining of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Garden by attending a Community Feedback Meeting on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.).
Originally created as a welcoming green space for learning, reflection and community connection, the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Garden has long been a cherished feature of the local neighborhood. The reimagining project will create a revitalized garden space that reflects the needs of the community with an engaging and interactive green space.
During the Community Feedback Meeting, attendees will have opportunities to share their input and ideas on garden updates that will enhance sustainability, increase accessibility and create spaces that foster learning and community connection. Participants will be invited to review interactive planning boards and take part in a hands-on Design Your Own Garden activity to help envision the future of the space while enjoying light refreshments.
Feedback garnered at the Community Feedback Meeting will inform the reimagining of the updated garden space. The implementation phase of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Garden Project will begin in June 2025 following a garden cleanup in May 2025. Full completion of the project, as well as a community celebration, is planned for September 2025.
