The community is invited to provide input on Sustainable City Action Plan (SCAP) priorities for the coming year, during the Sustainable City Commission meeting on Thursday, August 25, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Long Beach City Council Chamber, 333 W. Ocean Boulevard.

“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to contribute to the City’s sustainability plans for the coming year,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “Collaboration between the Sustainable City Commission and the community helps prioritize actions to continue creating a more livable Long Beach.”

Input can also be provided online through the Speak Up, Long Beach! community engagement portal.

“Community involvement in this process is important in ensuring Long Beach is taking the right actions to continue its path toward becoming an even more sustainable city,” said Larry Rich, Sustainability Coordinator.

Having been one of the first cities to create an Office of Sustainability and adopt a Sustainable City Action Plan (SCAP), Long Beach takes pride in its sustainability efforts. Adopted by the City Council in 2010, the SCAP is designed to guide operational, policy and financial decisions to create a more sustainable Long Beach. The SCAP is organized by seven key focus areas along with proposed action items. The key focus areas include: buildings and neighborhoods; energy; green economy and lifestyle; transportation; urban nature; waste reduction; and water.
