One of the simplest ways to ensure a child's school success is by making a quick trip to the Long Beach Public Library to get a library card. September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most important school supply of all – a free library card.

"Our world class Library system provides all students a welcoming atmosphere where they can explore, discover and create," Mayor Robert Garcia said. “With everything our libraries offer, a Long Beach Public Library card is one of the most important school supplies.”

It’s no mystery. Resources from the Long Beach Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card in good standing. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement.  Long Beach Public Library offers access to important educational resources from home or in the library like e-books, audiobooks, homework help, language learning tools, career and college resources and online databases.

“Students learn in a variety of ways,” said Glenda Williams, Director of Library Services. “The resources available at the library can meet the needs of all of our patrons. Whether that is through afterschool activities, programs on science and technology or the many resources we provide, the library has something for everyone – all with a free library card.”

For more information on how to sign up for a library card and so much more visit a Long Beach Public Library in person or online at www.lbpl.org.
