Safety Improvements In Progress on Spring Street
Release Date: 2022-08-22
Safety improvements are in progress on Spring Street between Lagoda Avenue and the I-605 Freeway by the City's Contractor, All-American Asphalt from August 2022 to September 2022, barring weather or unforeseen delays.
Long Beach Public Works is modernizing its roadways with designs that encourage responsible driving and make bicycling and walking convenient for local trips. This project is expected to reduce instances of speeding on Spring Street and provide better access to El Dorado Park for residents who are on foot or on a bike. Work includes replacing existing lane markings, updating signage, adding high-contrast crosswalks, installing new bike lanes with concrete buffers, and other associated work. The new curb-protected bike lanes will extend from Studebaker Road to the El Dorado Park/Nature Center Entrance. For more information on the City’s traffic safety initiatives, please visit the 2020 Safe Streets Long Beach Plan at: bit.ly/LB2020SSAP.
The contractor is scheduled to perform work Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Intermittent lane closures will be necessary to complete this project. Construction-related traffic controls may result in Spring Street temporarily operating with two lanes closed and one lane open in each direction. While the contractor will attempt to open lanes as soon as it is safe to do so, we encourage the use of alternate routes during work hours. Please visit RideLBT.com or call (562)591-2301 for construction-related transit service alerts.
The contractor encourages residents to:
- Keep away from the street and construction activities
- Drive slowly near traffic cones
Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation throughout this project.
