Cherry Avenue Complete Street Project
Background
Cherry Avenue, from Carson Street to Spring Street, is set for major infrastructure upgrades that will convert an auto-oriented roadway into a Complete Streets corridor that incorporates walking, bicycling and transit elements. The improvements will enhance safety by lowering vehicle speeds and reducing potential conflicts between different road users by transitioning the road to two lanes in each direction.
The project will include pavement resurfacing with rubberized asphalt, sidewalk reconstruction, ADA ramp installations and refreshed traffic striping and signage to enhance mobility and accessibility. The project is to include a protected bike lane in both the north and south bound travel lanes. Aligned with the goals of theSafe Streets Long Beach plan, Pavement Management Plan (PMP),and the Globemaster Corridor Specific Plan, this effort reflects the City’s commitment to safer, more and sustainable streets.
This project will be completed in two segments, beginning with the segment between Carson Street and Bixby Road, followed by Bixby Road to Spring Street.
This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets. For more information, please visit the Elevate28 Website.
