Background
Joe Rodgers Field, a softball field built in 1948, is located in Recreation Park next to the Long Beach State home stadium, Blair Field. With the Long Beach Softball Hall of Fame and a seating capacity of about 700 people, Joe Rodgers Field has welcomed thousands of softball fans and players over the decades.
The City of Long Beach completed several improvements to the Joe Rodgers Field facilities, including the restrooms and parking lot, for visitors to enjoy the stadium and its amenities for years to come.

Objectives
- Increase usability and extend the useful life of facility
- Enhance ADA accessibility
- Improve the visitor experience with higher quality infrastructure
Proposed Scope
- Renovation of existing restrooms with new partitions, epoxy flooring, doors, skylights, plumbing, lighting, fixtures, finished and refreshed paint
- Replacement of two existing water fountains with hydration stations with bottle fillers
- Parking lot improvements to ensure code compliant striping and path of travel in ADA accessible parking spaces
Project Funding
This project was funded by $600,000 from Measure A. Measure A is a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to fund public infrastructure and public safety services and was extended indefinitely by voters in 2020. Construction on the restrooms by the City’s contractor, Harry H. Joh Construction, Inc., is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2025.
June 2024
The City’s Contractor, Harry H. Joh Construction, Inc. is scheduled to begin construction in the area on July 8th, 2024 with a scheduled completion, barring weather or other unforeseen delays, by Fall 2024.
The improvements will include:
- Renovation of existing restroom with updated partitions, finishes, fixtures, and pain
- Updating 2 existing water fountains with new hydration stations
- ADA improvements at parking lot
