Project Information
Long Beach Public Works will be implementing several improvements to Loynes Drive between Bellflower Boulevard and Bixby Village Drive to encourage responsible driving and active transportation. Project improvements will include roadway resurfacing, sidewalk replacement, new curbs/gutters, driveway replacements, American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps, in addition to bike lane and traffic improvements along the 0.25-mile corridor. View the Safe Streets Long Beach Action Plan for more information on the City's traffic safety iniatives.
This project is designed to reduce instances of speeding on Loynes Drive by narrowing traffic lanes without creating significant delays for motorists. The current roadway capacity of two lanes in each direction greatly exceeds vehicular demand – a condition which contributes to higher speeds and more aggressive driving.
In addition to safety enhancements, the project will provide better biking and walking access to coastal amenities such as Jack Nichol, Marina Vista, and Channel View parks. The modifications will also allow cyclists to ride with the flow of traffic allowing them to cross Pacific Coast Hwy. with a single green light.
