Marine Stadium Electrical Infrastructure Project
Additional project updates and information will be published on an on-going basis.
Background
The Marine Stadium Electrical Infrastructure Project will install an upgraded and permanent power system to replace aging infrastructure that has been out of service since 2023. The existing equipment is beyond its useful life and not cost effective to repair. The new electrical distribution system will increase capacity and reliability to meet current needs and support future growth.
Restoring permanent power will benefit multiple facilities in the area, including the Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) maintenance building, public restrooms, the Long Beach Lifeguard Museum, and more. These sites have relied on solar panels for limited functions or temporary generators. This project is also a critical step in preparing Marine Stadium to host events for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Timeline
| Construction Start | Fall 2026 |
| Construction End | Late 2026 |
Project timeline is set barring weather delays and other unforeseen circumstances.
Objectives
- Establish a permanent and reliable power source for the various facilities and future programming in the area.
Project Features
- A new high voltage (HV) underground line that will be owned and operated by Southern California Edison. The line will branch out to support three new transformers and switchgears that will power the various facilities. From the transformer, the power will step down to low voltage service that will be owned and maintained by the City of Long Beach (reference image above).
- Support for future installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for the City’s Parks, Recreation and Marine Department fleet.
- This project will include pavement restoration of the impacted bike and vehicle lanes along Appian Way.
Project Funding
This project is supported by Tidelands and Marina funds.
