ClimateLB Youth Climate Action Fund Microgrant Program
The ClimateLB Youth Climate Action Fund Microgrant Program aims to support youth ages 15-24 in designing, producing, and overseeing urgent climate solutions that further the City’s climate action goals. Seventeen qualifying applicants will be awarded $5,000 each to implement sustainable projects in West Long Beach.
The application period will open from Friday, February 21, 2025, to Monday, March 17, 2025. Applications are available online at the link below. Who can apply?
Projects must be proposed by youth ages 15-24. Youth-led and youth-serving organizations in Long Beach are eligible to apply. Other organizations in Long Beach can apply if they partner with local youth-serving organizations or Long Beach residents ages 15-24. For example, a climate or art nonprofit could apply if they partner with a local youth serving as a project lead.

How many grants will be awarded?
Seventeen grants of $5,000 will be awarded to support qualifying projects.

What types of projects qualify?
The Program will prioritize proposals from youth-led and youth-serving organizations that address climate change mitigation and adaptation actions in West Long Beach, environmental justice, and equity, and that invest in youth and the green economy. Proposals may include:

Youth-Led Reforestation and Tree-Planting Projects: Projects that mobilize youth volunteers to plant trees, improve urban green spaces, and increase urban canopy coverage for better air quality and climate resilience.

Youth-Led Climate Education Efforts: Educational initiatives led by youth that target local schools and communities to increase awareness and understanding of climate issues.

Youth Climate Ambassadors Programs: Programs that engage youth to provide information on local climate and environmental resources to local businesses, nonprofits, and residents.

Youth-Designed Public Art and Awareness Campaigns: Partnerships with youth artists to create public art installations and awareness campaigns that convey the urgency of climate action and the City’s climate goals.

How can I apply?
The application form will open on this website on Friday, February 21, 2025, and close at 11:59 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025. Technical assistance will be made available to support applicants through the submission process.

How and when will the City approve proposals?
Applications will close at 11:59 PM on March 17, 2025. The Office of Climate Action will review all applications to ensure they meet the Program's minimum qualifications. Applicants whose projects did not meet minimum qualifications will be notified by March 24, 2025. A selection panel will review the applications and successful applicants will be notified by early April.

When will funds be awarded?
Funds will be administered to grant awardees by May 9, 2025, and the full $5,000 grant award must be expended by October 31, 2025.

Who is funding the grant?
The Youth Climate Action Fund is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with United Cities and Local Governments and the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University and is administered by the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
