Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach launched its electric-powered shuttle service for the Downtown Long Beach – Alamitos Beach neighborhoods as part of the Micro-Transit Shuttle program. This is the second and final fleet of electric-powered shuttles, which will operate Thursdays through Sundays*, and are intended to support mobility programs for economic recovery, promote non-automotive transportation modes for trips under three miles and alleviate parking impacts by connecting to nearby underutilized parking lots.
“Our shuttle program is now available in the Downtown Long Beach and Alamitos Beach areas,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “With the upcoming holidays, this is a great way to support local businesses and get around these neighborhoods.”
As of Nov. 10, shuttle services became available for both the Downtown – Alamitos Beach and Alamitos Bay – Belmont Shore neighborhoods, including a wheelchair accessible shuttle that can transport up to two passengers who require wheelchair accommodations. While there is currently one ADA accessible shuttle available for use in both service areas, a second ADA accessible shuttle will be added to the fleet at a later date. All riders are encouraged to download the Ride Circuit mobile app, available from any app store, or by visiting ridecircuit.com/ride for more information.
The Micro-Transit Shuttle program hours of operation are:
- Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m.
- Friday, 4 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.
- Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
*Note: The Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday, Nov. 24 will be observed and shuttles will not operate in either service area. Services will resume the following day.
Last month, the City debuted the shuttle service in the Alamitos Beach – Belmont Shore neighborhoods.
“I am so excited to see this micro-transit shuttle program launch in my district,” said First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas. “The availability of ADA-accessible vehicles shows our commitment to equity in all aspects of our amenities. I encourage everyone to take a ride to help support our local economic recovery efforts for the downtown area.”
"This micro-transit shuttle program is an innovative way to help support not just our businesses in areas where residents and tourists have a challenge finding convenient parking, but also our residents living in parking-impacted areas,” said Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen. “Residents can leave their cars at home and take advantage of this convenient way to explore the Alamitos Beach and Downtown areas by shuttle.”
