Long Beach, CA – On March 1, 2025, the City of Long Beach celebrated the groundbreaking for the Silverado Park Signature Playground Project with a ceremony featuring Mayor Rex Richardson, Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga and other City leaders. Located in West Long Beach, the project will create a safer and more engaging space for families with new, inclusive play equipment, and accessible pathways and amenities.
“This groundbreaking on the Silverado Park Signature Playground Project is more than just the start of a construction project — it’s a symbol of the progress we are making to uplift and invest in the Westside,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Through the Westside Promise, we committed to improving parks, infrastructure, and quality of life for families who call this diverse and vibrant community home. Seeing shovels hit the ground is proof that those promises aren’t just words — they’re action. This is what it looks like when we build a healthier, safer, and stronger Westside, together.”
An Elevate ‘28 project, the Silverado Park Signature Playground will feature play equipment that promotes sensory, physical and imaginative play, as well as safety features and other community-focused amenities, such as additional benches and tables. Inspired by the park’s mural, We Are The Seeds by Mer Young, the playground’s design will reflect the mural’s vibrant colors and theme. The project will create an inviting environment for the community, extend the useful life of the facility, improve accessibility and enhance visitor experience.
"Silverado Park is at the heart of the Seventh District and has served as a gathering place for our entire community,” said Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga. “With this significant investment, as well as our many other initiatives that align with the Westside Promise, we are building a stronger, more vibrant future for West Long Beach."
The Silverado Park Signature Playground Project aligns with the Westside Promise, a 10-year community investment plan that aligns existing City efforts and leverages partnerships to address current and historic challenges facing West Long Beach. The project is funded by $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Fund, $200,000 of Measure A funds, and $750,000 from the Elevate ‘28 Infrastructure Investment Plan. Construction for the project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.
“The Silverado Park Signature Playground is an exciting investment in our community, creating a safer and more inclusive space for families to enjoy,” said Director of Public Works, Eric Lopez. “This project reflects our commitment to enhancing public spaces with engaging amenities that foster connection, creativity, and active play”.
