Long Beach, CA – Beach Streets Open Streets is set to take place in West Long Beach on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by the City of Long Beach and presented by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Beach Streets embraces the active commuting lifestyle by opening the streets and transforming them into safe, open areas for people to bike, walk and explore their neighborhoods. This year’s event will uplift the City’s Westside Promise Initiative, a 10-year community investment plan that aligns existing City efforts and leverages partnerships to address current and historic challenges facing West Long Beach.

“Beach Streets is not just about bringing us all together to promote sustainable and healthy living—it's about uplifting our beautiful neighborhoods and celebrating our diverse and vibrant community,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “This year, we are especially proud to align the event with our Westside Promise Initiative and to showcase our unwavering commitment to supporting and improving the quality of life for residents in West Long Beach.”

Beach Streets promotes sustainable transportation, supports local businesses and allows its thousands of annual participants to get to know their neighbors in a comfortable, family-oriented environment. By bringing together different roadway users, Beach Streets also promotes commuting safety and supports the City’s climate goals by encouraging zero-emission transportation options.

This year’s event route will feature Willow Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Entertainment hubs along the route will feature live music, a kid zone, food trucks and more. More information regarding this year’s event, including a more detailed event route, entertainment, activities and other highlights, will be provided by the City at a later date.

“We are thrilled to host this year’s Beach Streets event, which every year opens our streets for people to explore the city’s unique neighborhoods and support local businesses” said Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga. “By aligning this year’s event with Westside Promise, we are not only highlighting our vibrant community—we are building a healthier, safer and stronger West Long Beach.”

“Across the world, cities are opening their streets to pedestrians and cyclists and revealing what is possible in their cities without a car,” said Stephanie Wiggins, Metro CEO. “Through Metro’s Open Streets Grant Program, we have been bringing these events to our neighborhoods for over 10 years, and hundreds of thousands of L.A. County residents have discovered how walking, biking and transit can improve their health and their quality of life.  We hope to see everyone at the May 10 Beach Streets West event in Long Beach!”

Beach Streets is an open streets event that began in 2015. Previous Beach Streets events have occurred in Uptown, Downtown, Uptown and Bixby Knolls, Cambodia Town and Zaferia, Willmore and Wrigley, and East Long Beach near California State University, Long Beach. Last year’s Uptown event also featured the City’s Veterans Day Celebration. Open Street events are popular throughout North America, as they promote the pursuit of innovative strategies to achieve environmental, social, economic and public health goals.

Westside Promise is a multi-department effort led by the Long Beach Community Development Department and in collaboration with other City Departments, including Public Works, Economic Development, Health and Human Services, Library Services and Parks, Recreation and Marine, and with oversight from the City Manager’s Office. The initiative focuses on areas related to housing supply, climate resiliency, youth and young adults, workforce and training, tourism, and capital improvements to City facilities like parks and health centers. In addition to neighborhood improvement, the initiative is also targeting economic development such as small business assistance and workforce training. The goal is to bolster and leverage investment in West Long Beach through entrepreneurship, grant funding and external partnerships.
