Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) invites the community to join their ongoing virtual author talk series, which highlights acclaimed bestselling authors on a monthly basis. April’s authors Kate Beaton and William Kent Krueger will share a graphical retelling of the harrowing Alberta oil camps and the latest addition to the iconic Cork O’Connor mystery series, respectively.

“The Library does a remarkable job at bringing enjoyable and informative literacy programs to the community,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “The virtual author talks series is just one of many programs being offered. I encourage everyone to tune in each month.”

The virtual talks for the month of April will take place on the days listed below. All talks include a moderated interview and live Q&A with each author. Registration is required. Participants are encouraged to register even if they cannot attend live since they can still submit their questions and watch the recorded event on LBPL’s author talk website

  • Tuesday, April 4 at 4 p.m. with Kate Beaton – Join us for an enlightening hour with the highly-acclaimed Kate Beaton, the New York Times bestselling author of Hark! A Vagrant! as she shares her latest graphic novel, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands
  • Thursday, April 27 at 5 p.m. with William Kent Krueger – Join us for a riveting hour with bestselling mystery writer William Kent Krueger as he discusses his newest book in the Cork O’Connor series, Fox Creek, and his numerous other works.

For more information or to register for the author talks, visit libraryc.org/lbpl or call 562.570.7500.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the positive responses we receive about the virtual author talk series,” said Library Director Cathy De Leon. “This quality programming innovatively connects patrons with celebrated authors in a relatable and thoughtful way.”

The author’s books are available for LBPL cardholders to check out in person or digitally through OverDrive, a free online eBook and audiobook resource available in the Digital Library. You can download OverDrive’s Libby app to read the books on your tablet or phone.

The virtual author talk series is supported by the Long Beach Public Library Foundation and its generous donors.
