The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has been improving the health of the Long Beach community for more than a century. We strive to create a safe and healthy community for all to live, work, and play.  Long Beach is one of only three city-run health departments in California, allowing for better engagement with its people, neighborhoods, businesses and community partners, and a greater understanding of the city's strengths and needs.  With 300 employees located in nine sites throughout the city, the Health Department operates with a $117 million annual budget, 99% of which comes from Federal, State, County and private funds.  This local focus allows the Health Department to coordinate resources from all sources to best meet the needs of our city.  We look forward to working with you on our journey towards a healthier Long Beach.

Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) Office of Veterans Support, in collaboration with the USS Frank E. Evans Association, will honor veterans and commemorate Long Beach’s rich naval history with a ceremonial community event, Remembering USS Frank E. Evans and the Lost 74, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The event will honor the naval ship USS Frank E. Evans and the 74 sailors who perished at sea on June 3, 1969.
Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) has announced the second year of its Spring into Health event, taking place Saturday, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cal Rec Community Center at Ernest McBride Park (1550 Martin Luther King Jr Ave.). This year’s event, which is free and open to the public, will focus on serving Long Beach’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, with the goal of increasing vaccination rates among these populations.

The report provides a detailed overview of the opioid crisis in Long Beach, the critical role of synthetic opioids like fentanyl, and the City's ongoing efforts to combat this public health emergency through innovative and community-focused solutions.
