Background

The Martin Luther King Jr. Park Facility Repairs project addresses immediate infrastructure needs at the park’s Community Center and park restrooms to ensure safe, functional, and accessible facilities. This effort focuses on essential upgrades, including roof replacement at the community center and park restroom renovations as informed by the Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA).

This work is being advanced alongside the Martin Luther King Jr. Park Improvements Project, which focuses on implementing priorities identified in the Vision Plan for park improvements. Together, these coordinated efforts support both the park’s immediate functionality and its future development.

This project is part of the Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a historic initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets. Learn more at lbelevate28.com.

May 2026

On May 18, 2026, the Public Works and Parks, Recreation and Marine Departments hosted a community meeting to provide an update on the critical repair work to the community center and park restrooms along with proposed concepts informed by the Vision Plan.
