As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- SWAT Activation and Arrest- 1900 block of Olive Avenue: On Sept. 4, 2025 at approximately 2:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Olive Avenue regarding a possible burglary to a residence. Upon officers’ arrival, the suspect subsequently barricaded themselves in the residence. Officers established a perimeter around the suspect’s location, SWAT resources were activated and responded to the scene. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and get the suspect to surrender, but the suspect refused to comply with officers’ commands. After some time, officers entered the barricaded residence, at which time the suspect surrendered to officers without incident. The suspect was arrested and transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. The suspect was identified James Rey Ibarra, a 40-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on burglary, criminal threats, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice. Bail was set at $50,000.
