This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers investigate a shooting: On Dec. 7, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of West Anaheim Street regarding a report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until being relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries, where his condition is listed as critical but stable. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was in the 1200 block of Chestnut Avenue when he engaged in a verbal altercation with a male adult suspect, which escalated when the suspect shot the victim. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim fled to safety in the 500 block of West Anaheim Street where a good Samaritan called for police assistance. At this time, no suspect information is available, and no other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE 12:45 p.m.:
On Dec. 8, 2023, at approximately 10:50 a.m., officers responded to Wilson High School after being notified by the school of a male juvenile who was in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, officers contacted a campus safety officer, who detained a male juvenile. A firearm was recovered. The juvenile was arrested and transported to Juvenile Booking. No injuries have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.
