As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • No-hit Shooting – 500 block of 53rd Street: On Sept. 11, 2024 at approximately 8:38 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of 53rd Street regarding a shots call. The preliminary investigation indicates two groups of subjects were in a verbal altercation, which escalated when a suspect(s) discharged a firearm. Officers located strike marks and evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. All of the subjects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported. 
  • No-hit Shooting – 300 block of Elm Avenue: On Sept. 12, 2024 at approximately 2:22 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Elm Avenue regarding a shots call. Officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred.  The suspects(s) fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Great work officers! Last night, officers safely took another gun off the streets.  

  • On Sept. 11, 2024 at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers were in the area of 14th Street and Long Beach Boulevard when they observed multiple subjects in the park after hours. During their investigation, officers recovered a firearm. The suspect, who was later determined to be a prohibited possessor, was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
