Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will host a series of job fairs to share information on current and upcoming job openings for Recreation Program Leaders. These positions are part-time, non-career opportunities that will assist with various programs at the City's many beautiful parks.

Mayor Rex Richardson, Councilman Al Austin, and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works invite you and your staff to attend the Davenport Park Expansion Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.  The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November 12 at 1 p.m. at Davenport Park (2910 E 55th between Candlewood & South).

Free concert featuring POPGUN ReRun, the number one ‘80s tribute band, taking place Friday, Aug. 23, 2024.

The concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at El Dorado Park West (2760 Studebaker Rd.). Community members are invited to rock out to iconic hits and dance the night away to pop, rock, new wave and funk music. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners to enjoy on the lawn.

Registration for new and existing recreation classes begins Monday, May 6. Summer is quickly approaching and PRM is offering over 700 activities taking place throughout the city and catering to all ages. From preschool to adults ages 50+, residents can enjoy classes in art, music, nature, fitness, special interest subjects, adult sports leagues, aquatics and more all summer long.

Dead or dying trees in City parks are being removed that pose a danger to park visitors, especially near high activity areas such as playgrounds, picnic areas, fitness equipment, walkways, parking areas, and facilities. The free Mobile Recess Program will bring trucks loaded with supplies and equipment to designated neighborhood streets and provide free recreational activities for youth ages 5 through 14 (Grades K-8).

Due to the impacts of the recent rainstorm, the following closures will take place today, Monday, August 21:

The El Dorado Regional Park will remain closed today. El Dorado Nature Center is closed on Mondays.

The Movie in the Park, “Super Mario Bros.” scheduled at College Estates Park tonight (August 21) is cancelled.

The Summer Food Service program will not take place today at Grace Park, Lincoln Park or Seaside Park, Visit 2023 - Summer Food Service Program for Children Serving Sites for alternative sites.

Say Farewell to summer concert at El Dorado Park West (2760 Studebaker Rd.) featuring Journey USA, the ultimate Journey tribute band, on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023.

Learn about different types of aquatic turtles, box turtles, and land tortoises, adults, and hatchlings. Guests will learn what these animals need in the wild and as pets to survive and can get information on adoptions. Event is free, $8 parking fee.

This May, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will celebrate Older American’s Month, recognized nationally each May, by offering a wide variety of free activities throughout the city for adults ages 50 and above.

Adults ages 50+ can enjoy art activities, a beach day, gardening, enrichment activities, nature hikes, physical fitness activities and more at facilities throughout Long Beach. All event details are available on the Senior Programs web page.

Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer Summer Day Camps and Summer Aquatic Camps for youth weekdays beginning June 20 through August 25. Registration begins Saturday, April 8 beginning at 9 a.m. online at LBParks.org.

Free nine-month program for teens13-18. Engagement opportunities and resources for future success. September-June, M-F, 3-7 p.m.  Teen Academy program is designed to provide teens with experiences, activities and resources that support their wellness and future success. 

Youth ages 10 to 24 are invited to join the Long Beach Youth Festival to experience performances from local writers, poets, singers, and dancers, interact with organizations serving youth, engage in networking opportunities, and discover a wealth of resources that uplift and inspire!

Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine will offer in-person Summer Day Camps weekdays beginning June 20 through August 26, where youth ages 5 to 12 will enjoy games, crafts, physical fitness, enrichment activities and more. Registration starts April 16.

Registration for winter recreation classes opens Monday, November 1.  Classes in a variety of areas including art, music, fitness and sports will be offered December 2021 through February 2022. The programs provide opportunities for exercise and recreation, social interaction, learning, and relaxation for everyone from preschool-aged children to adults. 

To sign-up online for after-school programs, residents may visit our online registration beginning September 22 at 10 a.m. The after-school programs are offered free of charge. In-person registration is available at each of the listed sites. 

Fall class registration will be available online starting at 8 a.m. August 16, 2021, at longbeach.gov/parks or by calling 562.570.3111. In-person registration is also available at the PRM Administration Building, 2760 N. Studebaker Rd., by appointment only. 

All classes will adhere to current COVID-19 safety protocols.

Parks, Recreation and Marine Department is in the process of preparing a Strategic Plan, and the community is invited to provide input on the new Plan, which will guide future operational decisions and park services over the next decade. 

Community members are invited to review the Draft Strategic Plan and share feedback by completing an online survey. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog through August 10, 2021.

Parks, Recreation and Marine Department will offer sessions through Friday, June 18, for four important youth engagement programs, including the Mobile Recess Program, After School Camps, Community Learning Hubs and the Virtual After School Program. Registration for these free and low-cost sessions begins on Friday, March 26.

The City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department is re-launching the Department Strategic Plan Update following a year-long pause due to the City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The community is now invited to see the results from the first community survey and participate in the next round of community outreach.

Due to the need to mitigate the community spread of COVID-19, the traditional Parks, Recreation and Marine Department summer “kick-off” concert, originally scheduled for Friday, May 22 at Marine Stadium, is cancelled.

Ready for indoor soccer? Online registration starts on February 3rd for boys & girls ages 5-14. The season begins April 18, 2020. 

The new playground at Jenni Rivera Park (2001 Walnut Ave.) will open on Wednesday, December 18th, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. 

During the upcoming school breaks for winter, the City of Long Beach will offer free ‘Fun Days’ youth programs and free teen recreation programs at parks throughout the city. Parents and guardians of younger children also can enroll their children in low-cost workshops at El Dorado Nature Center.

Children can visit their neighborhood park for scheduled drop-in activities including games, arts & crafts, special events and field trips for our Fall fun times. Call each park for specific schedule of activities.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine, in partnership with the Long Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, offers free or low-cost cultural programs, sports activities and special events throughout the city. The program, called 100 Days of Summer, launched in 2009. By this Labor Day, the City will have provided 1000 days of fun.

Hundreds of classes are starting in March for preschool through adults 50+.

Past license penalties and fines are being forgiven! Now is the time to bring your pet’s license up to date with this great incentive. 

Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine encourages all residents to "stay and play" in Long Beach during the "100 Days of Summer" from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Convention and Visitor's Bureau will post hundreds of activities on www.100DaysOfSummer.org to make planning each of your 100 days easy and fun!

Bring your family and friends and get the "100 Days of Summer" started. The band Under Cover specializes in high energy dance music – Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk. Latin, R&B, Top 40 and all of your favorite music from the 50’s to the present-day.

Kids Zone and Food Trucks start at 5 p.m.. Concert from 6-8 p.m.

Join El Dorado Nature Center and partners for our annual Earth Day Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, April 21 from 10 – noon.

Registration begins December 1, 2017 for leagues starting January 20, 2018 at Long Beach. Coed Basketball ages 5-8 Boys & Girls Basketball ages 9-14. Emphasis is placed on participation and skill development. 9 weeks season schedule includes pratices and 6 weeks of games.

Earth Day Coastal Cleanup Day! Saturday April 23 at 10 AM - 12 PM. Come show our beaches some love on Earth Day!

FREE Community Beach Days at Alamitos Beach from July 8th – July 12th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Beach Days will feature activities for all ages! Come on out and enjoy free volleyball clinics, sunrise/sunset yoga, sand castle building and free skateboard clinics to name a few! 

Free After School Program safely engages youth ages 5 to 12 with educational and engaging activities during the after-school hours. Registration for the After School Program begins Monday, Aug. 28, 2023.

The After School Program is a free drop-in program where registered participants may come and go as they please. Participants will receive homework assistance and enjoy enrichment activities and games.
