California Native Plant Sale 11/4/2024 The annual California Native Plant Sale begins Tuesday, Nov. 5 through Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at El Dorado Nature Center (7550 E. Spring St.).  The plant sale will feature hundreds of beautiful and beneficial native plants to enhance gardens, patios or balconies and increase habitat for wildlife.

Halloween Festival
Silverado Park Halloween Carnival 10/23/2024 We are in partnership with the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability, is hosting the Neighborhood Halloween Carnival, taking place on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.). This free, family-friendly Halloween community event is part of the City's Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program and will focus on fostering connection and building communities that come together to engage locally.
Jellyfish Bot 1
City of Long Beach Debuts New Water Debris-Collecting Device 10/1/2024 Parks, Recreation and Marine has announced its new Jellyfishbot, a remotely controlled debris-collecting device that can remove up to 100 pounds of debris from surface-level water in a single mission. The Jellyfishbot will enhance City efforts to clean Long Beach marina waters and raise awareness on larger marine pollution issues.

Trees
Tree Inventory Report for Park 9/4/2024 Parks Recreation and Marine is currently removing dead or dying trees in City parks that pose a danger to park visitors. Tree removals in El Dorado Area 3 will resume on Sept. 5, 2024 Arborist inventory inspections have highlighted the basis of why trees that may look fine, but upon close inspection, show signs of root rot, splitting forked trunks, disease-weakened tree structure and other facts necessitating removal.

Free concert featuring POPGUN ReRun, the number one ‘80s tribute band, taking place Friday, Aug. 23, 2024.

The concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at El Dorado Park West (2760 Studebaker Rd.). Community members are invited to rock out to iconic hits and dance the night away to pop, rock, new wave and funk music. Summer Kickoff Concert at El Dorado Park West on May 24 5/21/2024 Parks, Recreation and Marine will welcome the summer season with a free concert featuring the Under Cover Band. Community Learning Hubs and Mobile Recess Programs 9/7/2023 The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will once again offer its Community Learning Hubs and Mobile Recess Programs this fall.

Registration for the program is required. To enroll, participants can visit their desired location for a registration packet. Registration is available at Houghton and McBride Parks between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and at Orizaba and Veterans Parks from 3 to 6 p.m. Limited spots available. Registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Due to the impacts of the recent rainstorm, the following closures will take place today, Monday, August 21:

The El Dorado Regional Park will remain closed today. El Dorado Nature Center is closed on Mondays.

The Movie in the Park, “Super Mario Bros.” scheduled at College Estates Park tonight (August 21) is cancelled.

The Summer Food Service program will not take place today at Grace Park, Lincoln Park or Seaside Park, Visit 2023 - Summer Food Service Program for Children Serving Sites for alternative sites.

Outdoor Games
Free Winter Youth Fun Days Program and Teen Activities During Winter School Break 12/14/2022 Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer free extended supervised recreation programs for youth over the winter school break. Both the Winter Fun Days Program and Teen Program will operate Dec. 27 through 30 and Jan. 3 through 6, noon to 5 p.m., at parks throughout Long Beach. 

The Winter Fun Days Program will offer youth ages 5 through 12 the opportunity to enjoy free games, crafts, sports tournaments, field trips and holiday celebrations. Onsite registration when youth show up to participate is required.

Long Beach Parks Recreation and Marine to Host Job Fair December 6 12/1/2022 The job fair will include information on a wide range of PRM programs that are currently hiring or will start hiring soon within the Community Recreation Services Bureau. City of Long Beach Implements Reduced Annual Parking Pass Fee for Veterans for El Dorado East Regional Park 11/25/2022

The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine has implemented a reduced annual parking pass fee at El Dorado East Regional Park (7550 E. Spring St.) for veterans. The reduced fee now accompanies existing discounts available for older adults and people with disabilities.

Community Learning Hubs for Youth 12/20/2021

Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine will continue offering after-school programs that safely engage youth and support learning and access to recreational opportunities throughout the winter months. Both the Community Learning Hub Program and After School Program begin Jan. 3 and will run weekdays through April 15. Registration for both programs begin Dec. 22 online and in person.

Winter Class Registration 10/28/2021

Registration for winter recreation classes opens Monday, November 1.  Classes in a variety of areas including art, music, fitness and sports will be offered December 2021 through February 2022. The programs provide opportunities for exercise and recreation, social interaction, learning, and relaxation for everyone from preschool-aged children to adults.

To sign-up online for after-school programs, residents may visit our online registration beginning September 22 at 10 a.m. The after-school programs are offered free of charge. In-person registration is available at each of the listed sites.

Fall class registration will be available online starting at 8 a.m. August 16, 2021, at longbeach.gov/parks or by calling 562.570.3111. In-person registration is also available at the PRM Administration Building, 2760 N. Studebaker Rd., by appointment only. 

All classes will adhere to current COVID-19 safety protocols.

Parks, Recreation and Marine Strategic Plan 7/26/2021

Parks, Recreation and Marine Department is in the process of preparing a Strategic Plan, and the community is invited to provide input on the new Plan, which will guide future operational decisions and park services over the next decade. 

Community members are invited to review the Draft Strategic Plan and share feedback by completing an online survey. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog through August 10, 2021.

Virtual and Outdoor Recreation Classes 4/15/2021 Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine is now offering several recreation classes in virtual and outdoor formats. Classes focus in areas of youth enrichment and education, and adult and youth fitness; all classes will adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols. Registration for all classes is now open online at lbparks.org, or by calling 562.570.3111. Sessions begin as early as April 12 and end by May 31.

Winter Programs for Youth 11/24/2020 Winter Camps for children ages 5-12 will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from Dec. 21 through Dec. 31 (closed Dec. 25, Christmas Day). Campers will be able to enjoy fun new games that follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. Register online beginning at 10 a.m. on Dec. 1. Free Virtual After School Programs 10/14/2020 Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine is offering another safe option for after-school activities and social interaction. The new virtual out-of-school program, for youth ages 5 to 14, will be available weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Oct. 19 through Dec. 18. Registration for the program is required and will be available online or in person beginning Thursday, Oct. 15. Online registration will be available on the PRM website starting at 8 a.m.

Long Beach to Offer ‘After School Reimagined’ Fall Camp Programs for Youth 9/1/2020 The ‘After School Reimagined’ programs will be offered Mondays through Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, September 8. Youth can participate in fitness activities, games and crafts, homework help and more. The cost of the program is $10 per week, per participant, and scholarships are available.

City to Close Beaches Over Fourth of July Weekend 7/1/2020 Long Beach beaches will be closed to the public this Fourth of July weekend starting Friday, July 3 (12:01 a.m.), through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 6, in a proactive effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. This closure also includes piers, beach parking lots (except for permit holders), beach access ways, bathrooms and beach bike and pedestrian paths.

Long Beach Reopens Beaches for Active Recreation 5/13/2020  In an amendment to the City of Long Beach’s Safer at Home Order, the City will reopen all public beaches in Long Beach for active recreational activities beginning Wednesday, May 13, and continuing until further notice.

Trails and Trailheads Update 5/7/2020 Beginning on Friday, May 8, the public trails and trailheads will be open at the El Dorado Nature Center, DeForest Wetlands and Willow Springs Park. Long Beach Parks Closed on Easter Sunday 4/10/2020 The Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will close all parks, including open spaces, on Sunday, April 12, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine, in partnership with the Long Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, offers free or low-cost cultural programs, sports activities and special events throughout the city. The program, called 100 Days of Summer, launched in 2009. By this Labor Day, the City will have provided 1000 days of fun.

Free Youth Sports Leagues 11/28/2017

Registration begins December 1, 2017 for leagues starting January 20, 2018 at Long Beach. Coed Basketball ages 5-8 Boys & Girls Basketball ages 9-14. Emphasis is placed on participation and skill development. 9 weeks season schedule includes pratices and 6 weeks of games.

TREE REMOVALS NECESSARY TO SUPPORT SAFE LONG BEACH PARKS 12/23/2016 City of Long Beach will begin removing some dead and dying trees in the City’s parks that are increasingly prone to toppling over or limbs falling. The City must remove them to ensure the public’s safety and, consequently, support the growth of healthy trees.

New In-Person Recreation Classes Offered in June 1/1/0001 Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer several new in-person recreation classes beginning in June. Classes will be offered for ages preschool to 50 years and older, and include a variety of physical, intellectual and fun interests. Registration for all classes begins May 27 at 10 a.m. online and in person.

Spring Class Registration Begins February 7 1/1/0001 Registration for new recreation classes offered by Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) begins Monday, Feb. 7. More than 300 classes in art, music, nature, fitness, special interest subjects, and adult sports leagues and aquatics programs will be offered starting in March.

Summer Fun Days 1/1/0001 2022 Summer Fun Days is a free non-custodial care drop-in recreation program for ages 5-12 from during the 10-week school break. The program’s activities engage youth in supervised fun, including sports, games, arts and crafts and special events.

Free After School Programs for Youth Begins August 28 1/1/0001

Free After School Program safely engages youth ages 5 to 12 with educational and engaging activities during the after-school hours. Registration for the After School Program begins Monday, Aug. 28, 2023.

The After School Program is a free drop-in program where registered participants may come and go as they please. Participants will receive homework assistance and enjoy enrichment activities and games.

Free Youth Fishing Derby November 18 1/1/0001 The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, in partnership with Partners of Parks, the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, will offer their annual Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, Nov.18, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at El Dorado East Regional Park (7550 E. Spring St.). Registration begins day-of at 8 a.m. and is free.

Protect Dogs Against Respiratory Diseases 1/1/0001 Veterinarians in California and several other states across the country are reporting an increased number of dogs with acute respiratory infections ranging from mild and self-limiting to life-threatening pneumonia. In response, Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) is issuing the following advisory to pet owners.
