History
Los Angeles County acquired this park on May 3, 1944 with the cooperation of the Jotham Bixby Company and M.A. Sommers when surrounding neighborhoods were developed. The land was annexed to Long Beach on April 1, 1948. The park has three baseball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, picnic areas, and contains Long Beach Water Department water wells. Cherry Park received new picnic tables, field lights and playground equipment in the 1990's from the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Acts of 1992 and 1996. One of the baseball diamonds was removed and replaced with a soccer field after 2000.
